Description
Monarch is an old culinary apple raised in Chelmsford, Essex in 1888. It is a late season variety, apples picked in October can be used from November through to January. It makes a good alternative to Bramley’s Seedling, being neither as sharp or acidic, and its natural sweetness requires little added sugar. The trees themselves are vigorous, fairly hardy and show good resistance to scab, making them a wise choice for growing in wetter regions like the westcountry.
