Description
This is an old Norfolk variety, famed for its ability to be baked for hours without bursting its skin! When cooked slowly the flesh becomes thick and a rich flavour develops with notes of raisins and cinnamon. It was first recored in 1807, but is probably older, with references to ‘Beefing’ apple dating back to the Walpole family of Norwich, 1698. It is a healthy tree, vigorous and giving good crops, with pretty blossom and attractive apples. The fruit will store well right through to the spring when the apples can be enjoyed as dessert fruit.
