Sorbus devoniensis, sometimes known as the Devon Sorb apple, is not an apple at all but actually a type of service tree native to Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, and Ireland. <br> <br> Historically, the edible fruit was sold at Devon markets as ‘Otmast’ or Sorb Apples, but today it is more a favourite of hungry birds!<br> <br> Probably a hybrid between the wild service and common whitebeam trees, it has a soft, downy white underside to the leaf. Very pretty white flowers in May feed pollinating insects and in the autumn it produces small, speckled-white orange/brown berries. They are russeted and rough skinned. <br> It makes a small to medium sized, pretty ornamental tree for the garden or hedgerow. <br> <br> We harvest the seed from a local source and grow these trees in peat-free compost. Available as 1yr or 2yr plants in 2L or 10L pots.
