Description
A chance seedling from Poltimore Farm in Farway, East Devon, possibly a related to Tom Putt.
Jessica trees are very strong growing, often very heavy cropping, scab and canker resistant and very reliable. They produce a very attractive, red flushed apple, extremely juicy. The flesh is sharp and tart. Can be crisp when picked from the tree, but fruit does not store and quickly goes soft. They make an excellent variety for adding some sharp acidity to juice and cider in early/mid September, cook down quickly to a fluff and if you like a brisk-tasting eating apple, then these will work for you!
On a good year sugar levels can be high.
Good level of natural disease resistance mean they are suitable for growing in the westcountry/areas of high rainfall.
